Lightboxes

I need your opinion on something. Go to this page and click on the cover image.

Do you find the lightbox effect cool or confusing/startling?

I'm not asking what you think of the cover, but the special effect itself.

I think it's cool. And confusing/startling. For a minute I wasn't quite sure how to page back. But I imagine the confusion will fade once the effect goes into wider use, i think I've only seen it a few places so far.

I would be a little unnerved if the image did this automatically without clicking on it (as if I were watching a commercial, where the advertiser is trying to control my impression. When I'm at the computer, I like to think I have a little more control myself). But getting the effect when you click on the image is fine. The cover art is stunning enough that you don't really need the trick.

Its fancy, but I think its overall unneeded. People who have bad slow old computers might not be able to view it, or their computer may not be able to take it.

Welcome to the blog, Kate! Thanks to everyone for your comments. I'll make sure my webmaster sees them. Takes only a tiny bit of code to change it, about the time it would take me to make him a cup of tea.
