Pampered Pooches

In his "Notes and Errata" column last week, the San Francisco Chronicle's Mark Morford discusses why beef-flavored drinking water for dogs just might be a sign of the Decline of Civilization.

And I thought I was spoiling my pets by running their tap water through the Brita filter to take out the well-smell.

Oh, I do like the Mark.

I've heard of things like pet spas and resort kennels. Now I love my kitties very much, but that's just plain insane.

What I dislike, is vegetarian pet food. That's taking their natural diet away from them, even if it does have all the nutrients.

Wolves don't need beef-flavored water.

Gracie says the well smell is the best part. Actually it's known as "ancient pipe ambience" in DC.

Our well water didn't smell until we got a new well pump. Problem is, there's no reason why a new pump would cause this particular weird smell, so we can't prove it was caused by it, not without several hundred dollars worth of tests that probably won't prove anything anyway.

I'm glad we're on a well, though. The city we live near just imposed a total moratorium on new development because there's not enough water for everyone in the public system.
