Shane's story: "Last Request"

I’ve posted the fourth story in my “Days the Music Died”/how-the-DJs-became-vampires series. Shane’s, not surprisingly, is the longest and most complex story of all. If you’ve read Wicked Game, you know who turns him. Here’s how they met. As always, it includes a short playlist of the music that appears in the story. Listen to it before, during, or after, and enjoy!

By no small coincidence, today is the fourteenth anniversary of his big change. You can follow Shane on Twitter, or visit his page at, where you can listen to his new-and-improved playlist, a sample of the sort of music he plays on his show.

BONUS GIVEAWAY: Everyone who leaves a comment on Shane’s story (either here or by e-mailing me), will be put into a drawing to win a very special prize, one that can’t be bought in stores, not even on eBay:

I’ll send the winner the marked-up, scribbled-on manuscript of the story’s first draft. You can see where I messed up, how I (hopefully) fixed it, and even a few arguments with myself over word choice, characterization, and plot.

NOTE: this will be a Xeroxed copy, because the original manuscript came down with a severe case of raspberry jelly. I have no idea how that happened.

The drawing will take place at 11:59pm Eastern Daylight Time on April 12.

Regina’s and Noah’s stories will appear later, but I have to work around my ever-tightening book deadlines, so hang in there!

Raspberry jelly? That sounds good. Now you've made me hungry.

Raspberry jelly: good for bellies, bad for paper. :-)

Shane's story unveiled to the world on my birthday? I dig it.
I always love reading your work!

Happy Birthday, Heather! Hope it's a fun one.

I'm a new fan and I'm already hooked...or bitten maybe? LOL

Just read Shane's Story "Last Request" and maybe I have a warped sense of humor but I just kept hearing that song "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" playing. I guess in this case it should be "Ain't No Sunshine Now That She's Here"! :-p

Loved this story and now you've gone and gotten me addicted to your blog. Looking forward to my next fix.

HockeyVampiress: Yep, Shane appreciates all his Twitter buds. :-)

Donna S: The jelly was much better in my mouth than on the page.

Kerri: LOL, I hadn't thought of that twist on the sunshine song. That's great.

I don't know about getting addicted to this blog. I've been pretty lax except for the last couple of weeks. Little things like Twitter and oh yeah, writing books, keep getting in the way of blogging.

Loved Shane's story, but then I really liked him in Wicked Game. You have such awesomely developed characters that one thinks they are real people and in essence, they are. After all, Shane has tweeted me a couple times already. :)

As for the jelly, better on the paper than in the keyboard. LOL!

Ruby: Yes, Shane and Ciara are so real it's dangerous for my mental health. ;-)

I'll keep that in mind about the jelly. Put it on list of things not to eat around the laptop, along with honey and carbonated beverages.
