Blogtoberfest Day 23 - PC Cast

The winner of Christine Marciniak's When Mike Kissed Emma is...yabooknerd! Congrats, and thanks to everyone who welcomed Christine's debut!

A real quick Grand Prize FAQ:

Q. Will the books in the uber-mega-califragilistic grand prize package be signed?
A. Nope, the books--all 25 of them, worth over $300--will come directly from Amazon, ordered by yours truly in one lump sale. Some authors (including me) offer signed bookplates you can stick in your copy of the book, but you'll have to contact them individually.

And when I say "you," I mean you. No, don't look over your shoulder. I'm talking to you. The winner. But you probably want to come back on November 9, just to be sure.

Q. What about books that aren't out yet, like the ones being given away as ARCs in the daily contests?
A. Good question! Those will be pre-ordered for you, which means that over the next six to eight months, you'll get surprises in the mail as each book is released. Sweet, huh?

Enough with the business--let's welcome today's Blogtoberguest, PC Cast! She's one of my all-time favorite authors, and also a dear friend (FWIW, we started loving each other's books--well, book, singular, in my case--long before we met). I've probably read more of her novels than those of any other writer, and I've read all five in her New York Times-bestselling House of Night series, which she writes with her daughter Kristin Cast. The sixth one, Tempted, is on its way to my house. *taps foot, glares at mailman*

Anyone who knows me well would say that's about four more books than I usually read in a series. Short attention span, I haz it.

Where was I? PC rocks. Here's the trailer for Tempted:

And now, the Babe herself, PC Cast!

* * * *

I love Halloween! Mostly because it’s the only nationally recognized holiday that’s for girls, or as I like to think of it, a girliday. I mean, come on – we get to dress up in costumes (girl stuff), we get to eat chocolate. Lots of chocolate (again, a girl candy). And we get to party while we costume and eat chocolate and basically debouch until the wee hours of the morning.

Waaaaiiiitttt…maybe I am a vampyre…

Soooo, my favorite Halloween was not long ago. One of my girlfriends had an amazing house in a part of Tulsa called Reservoir Hills. Her place was super cool – a white stucco 1920’s movie star mansion complete with koi pond and an amazing balcony. Well, she had a par-tay. Which means the entire neighborhood, made up of an eclectic group of equally cool houses/people, went full out. They made graveyards in their front yards – strung lights everywhere – hired zombies to prowl – got a dry ice/fog machine. I swear you couldn’t walk a yard without getting totally stickied by one of those giant fake spiderweb thingies. Everyone dressed up, from the kids to the cats. There was food and music and dancing in the streets.

But you know what was coolest about it (outside of my excellent vamp costume)? It was the coming together of the entire neighborhood to make it a great time. I love that when it happens, and I also love that Halloween still brings kids and their (sometimes badly) dressed up parents out to go from door to door trick or treating.

So this Halloween how about starting an annual block party? Better yet – theme it! Make it a House of Night Party! If you do I wish you lovely tattoos, a brilliant moon, and the blessings of Nyx.

Oh, and on October 30th, if you’re in the San Francisco area come by and see Kristin and me for our Halloween tour party at Books Inc., 855 El Camino Real #74, Palo Alto, CA 94304, 7:00pm. Yes! Costumes are always encouraged!

I haven't started to read the HOUSE of NIGHT series but I can't wait to start. I have heard nothing but good things.

Hey! :)
I really enjoy the House of Night series. Like Jeri, my copy of Tempted is being held up by the postal service & I should get it tomorrow! :)

Posted by: Blogger SMJ at 10/29/2009 9:46 AM

I want a copy of this book sooo bad. I just don't know when I will be able to get my hands on it. Had a car accident last week and all of my avaliable funds are going to that at the moment. Love PC and Kristen they make us Oklahoman's look good.

Posted by: Blogger Michelle at 10/29/2009 9:51 AM

I love the House of Night series. I love Halloween. I'm just sooo full of love - I feel like a pekineses. And I am so excite to read this one. I want to branch out and read the other novels by PC Cast...need a raise to afford my reading addiction.

Posted by: Blogger ParaJunkee at 10/29/2009 9:52 AM

Woo-Hoo! I check in every item the store I work in gets and the book guy came tuesday and I told him "If you don't have Tempted by Cast Squared, you might as well turn around and go." He claimed to have it but I made him SHOW me until I accepted the delivery. lol And THEN the silly man tried to take all the copies to the sales floor. I was appalled! I shouted after him, "HEY! might as well leave one here so I can buy it when I get off." All that to say, you sooo rock. Also we call my niece Zoey (my silly sister, niece's mom) thinks its because its short for Arizona but I KNOW its because of Zoey Redbird. *nods* what does her mom know.

I love this series! I can't wait to read this!! :-)

Posted by: Blogger Sara C at 10/29/2009 10:10 AM

I love Halloween as well! I wish I was in the San Fransisco area - I would totally come.

Posted by: Blogger Erica at 10/29/2009 10:16 AM

That sounds like a lot of fun! Especially the zombies prowling around. Very cool. Our neighborhood has a block party, but no one dresses up. They all just get together and eat and drink. So we usually go out for halloween!

Posted by: Blogger Brooke Reviews at 10/29/2009 10:19 AM

Hi PC~

I love your House of Night series and congrats on the release of Tempted!! Which I am eager to read.

We do not have too many big plans for Halloween...we always take the kids (this used to mine but now is my grandbabies and my niece and nephew) out trick or treating and meet at my Mom's house for pictures and chili.

I hope that you have a great Halloween.

Posted by: Blogger Lori T at 10/29/2009 10:29 AM

I haven't started the House of Night series, but it sounds really cool.

I can't wait till November 9!

Posted by: Blogger Melanie at 10/29/2009 10:34 AM

I enjoy this author and series!

Posted by: Blogger tetewa at 10/29/2009 10:46 AM

I am new to this series. I finished Marked about two weeks ago and loved it. I need to pick up the next in the series. My oldest is currently reading Hunted.

Posted by: Blogger DrkCherry at 10/29/2009 11:14 AM

OH MY GOONESS! I want to read this book so bad. I have heard nothing but good things about this series and if it wasn't for my working every waking moment, I would have already bought and read them all by now. Please, enter me in! Oh by the way, I love the mother/daughter writing duo. That is amazing. <3 Bekah

Posted by: Blogger Unknown at 10/29/2009 11:39 AM

I love the HON books as do my daughters. Will there be movies???

Posted by: Blogger Stil29 at 10/29/2009 11:42 AM

Block party... what a great idea! Too bad there's no real sense of neighborhood where I live. Just lots of apartment buildings where no one knows each other. Maybe a block party would help to get people to come out of their shells!

Posted by: Blogger Ken at 10/29/2009 1:11 PM

That block party sounds really fun! The closest thing we've had around here is a scary movie showing at my apartment complex, but I was too wimpy to go!
And I've really enjoyed PC's adult books, and have heard great things about the House of Night series as well!
Have fun at the Books Inc signing---I have good friends who work there!

Posted by: Blogger Kimberly B. at 10/29/2009 2:15 PM

Oh my!!! I'm a huge fan of this series. It's so amazing and I totally get lost in her books!!! *crosses fingers*

Posted by: Blogger Tiffany Cunha at 10/29/2009 2:28 PM

I would love to have a halloween block party but I doubt the neighbors would agree. *sigh* Good luck on the book tour. I wish I could stop by.

I really enjoyed Halloween in my sister's neighborhood. Some of the neighbors did haunted houses, and everyone in the family was out having fun with the kids/grandkids trick or treating. I've since moved across the country, but at least I get pictures of all the kids costumes. I haven't read any of the House of Night series, but I'm going to start as soon as I can pick up the books.

I do wish you both a most exciting Halloween and a wonderful time tomorrow as well.. Thank you for your awesome series!! I'd love to figure out how to go about co-writing my daughter...

Best wishes!

I would love to have a neighborhood block party. I live in a small town and we have a fall festival, but it's just not the same. We used to have this big Halloween shindig at the local tobacco warehouse, haunted house, cakewalk, country store, duck pond, fishing, you name it. I loved going to it when I was a kid.

I love your House of Night series! I agree that when the neighborhood or communities come together for Halloween it is great. But I also love the creep factor of the holiday too. When I was a kid the scariest thing was we were walking near the high school and some random person started chasing us, running full out, and did I mention they were wearing a guerrilla suit? :0) No, we still don't why a guerrilla suit but we ran away fast. Good merry fun. Happy Halloween!
